that's one way, but the whole top of the rafter is just nailed to the plywood. I probably would have put a couple 1x6 across underneath the tops then you wouldn't need the 2x6

Why not put rafters on the other side of the ceiling joists which would line up directly over the main house rafters in which case that 2x6 would not be necessary
