Calabrese is complicated as there are hundreds of different accents. Plus in the region they speak other languages including ancient Albanian and Greek + different dialects from North of Italy.. Unbelievable!

Love this. My grandparents were genovese, so I hear some similarities in certain words! I never learned the dialect at all but I do have a little Italian to genovese dictionary my nonna gave me.

My Mom and Dad were both from Calabria. Belsito and Paterno and their dialect sounds just like your Nonna’s. I understood her and didn’t any of the other. Funny.
