Socrates wasn't actually interested in debating to disprove - he was interested in debating to learn in the pursuits of knowledge. What he would do is take an opposing statement and then reinforce it further before then constructively critiquing it. We call this "steel manning" instead of straw manning.

its sounds quite strait forward but not easy in practise. bare in mind you will be engaging with pseudo skeptical and social skeptical who will alter reality in order to be right. arguments should be done with civility and with emotionally mature individuals. intellectualism will never be able to humble the arrogant.

This method assumes that the other is bright enough to *not* descend into circular reasoning. Too many people can't be led to question their own position because they don't understand the crucial point of their own position & restarts their circular thinking.

In the age of Tiktok & Instagram, argument is too brief and telegraphic to deploy the Socratic method. Interogatives are ignored & assertions repeated - often with sneers or insults
