@nytimes: After New York City's congestion pricing took effect, it almost immediately began to alter traffic patterns, commuter behavior, transit service and even city noise. Emily Badger, who writes about cities and urban policy, looks at three apparent effects since the tolls began in January. #NYC #congestionpricing
big fan of congestion pricing. let’s focus on the people! walkablity and public transportation are part of why i love living in nyc so much

Like Paris, it takes time. At first everyone complained, now almost nobody drives. The city is SOOOOO much better, less noise, less pollution, less traffic, better walking experience. NIGHT AND DAY

Live long die hard car enthusiast here..get cars out of cities. Public trans, walkability are what we should be spending money on not more roads/parking

What about the economic impact? Less cars is going to mean less economic activity and that's a huge negative that no one seems to want to bring up...

Let’s reclaim those streets and build wider sidewalks, dedicated bus lanes & bike lanes!

Yeah but when native New Yorkers haven’t seen any changes to the mta over the 10 years and everyone is like add congestion pricing. Yeah! We pay insurance, we pay vehicle registration. Traffic got pushed up. Make it make sense. No improvements on public transportation. Where’s is the money going to?

Congestion pricing doesn’t stop people from getting into the city they stop poor people from getting into the city.

Congestion pricing is the dumbest thing ever. How about Albany fixes the MTA rather than making working people pay for it.

this was all designed by Andy Byford to fund the improvements to the MTA. it's almost like he's one of the best public transit beaurocrats the world has ever seen and Cuomo/DeBlasio should have let him do his job! bring him back!!

3.5% speed improvement is chump change compared to the cost. Less honking. What are we talking about here???

So the real question is were these things actually reduced, or simply displaced to somewhere else? Because if the latter, the societal benefit is illusory and the turd-can was just kicked to less affluent communities

I don't understand the hate. I don't really care about it as a pedestrian, but as a driver it's phenomenal. Paying extra to have emptier roads is well worth it if I wanna have the luxury of driving somewhere in a single person car

The energy that Lefitst Twitter and the NYT gave congestion pricing when the cost of rent is absolutely out of control, is the exact reason why Lefists don’t succeed on the national stage. These policies are painfully tone deaf and don’t make a positive impact on the most vulnerable people. People want lower rent—not more expensive transit.
