yepp i was reading a book yesterday about women’s dependency on men and the need to be ‘saved’ by them and thought waittt that resembles religion! patriarchy + capitalism + religion all mirror and rely on each other.

Idk about other religions, but Islam does not support capitalism and communism at all. Islam encourages charity, and forbids interest, monopolies, and wealth inequality. Muslims are encouraged to detach themselves from money, fame, and status.

i love this take so much and it goes hand in hand with what history tells us; religion being used to fuel colonialism/imperialism and capitalism while both subjugating the average person to unattainable aspirations at times (work hard, you’ll be rich, always be good or else you’ll go to hell etc etc)yet, both (ex: Christianity) have done more harm than good 🫤& this comes from a a Catholic (i hope this whole comment makes sense😭)!!

the problem is, as someone who's been an atheist and now is religious again, please go into religions are too focused on heaven/hell and the concept of reward and punishment instead of personal and inner peace. you should be religious because it brings calmness-

yes also capitalism is a direct evolution of the feudal structure of power, exerted vertically and absolutely. this definitely checks out, only problem with the matter is that it’s such an ingrained dynamic in the human subconscious that it’s difficult for many to even see the arbitrariness intrinsic to it

I think historically religion has been used to keep the poor in check and the slaves in complacency, especially the weaponization of Christianity in the Western world, but inherently religion is anti-capitalist. Religions like Islam promote community and congregation which is very different to the idea of the individual self and personal preservation. Exploitation in any degree is condemned, and you see similar concepts in the Bible, ‘love thy neighbour’. Capitalists weaponize religion the same way misogynists do.

Like absolutely yes, I agree. But whenever people have this take they completely fail to take into account how vast religion is and only consider abrahamic religious philosophy which has been shaped over time as a tool of imperialism+colonialism. that’s the problem. These same concepts cannot be applied to much outside of it (eastern religions, paganism, just many many other religions/ spiritual philosophies that have been erased from ppls eyeshot by colonialism and the white mans burden). Equating religion to only one sort and then denouncing it as a whole lacks nuance and is actively harmful. People absolutely need spirituality and curiosity towards it.

I could talk about this for days. they are very intertwined . In the 16th century in the Catholic Church it was believed you could buy your way into heaven. The west massively monopolised off of the idea of faith, heaven and hell. Why protest unfair wages or want better in life when there’s an eternity an another realm
