so I'm a fairly young guy (31) who has been with his now wife for nearly 14 years. I *adore* my wife. But I also sometimes find I have to put my ego aside about being right and just recognize that she needs wins sometimes just like I do. when I sense she needs the win, I'm absolutely happy to let go of whatever my disagreement is so that she can be happier. I'd rather her be happy than me get satisfaction about being right. maybe that's not what the guy meant, but I think framing it the way I described *is* good advice.

“My wife is always right” is a funny joke and I’d always say that, but people who actually live by that don’t respect their wives/girlfriends are not truly listening to them and just blow them off

I think when you’ve been with someone for so many years arguing just feels pointless I don’t think they hate their wives I feel like they just don’t care enough about the actual argument it’s like with your younger brother you’ve known him for so long that sometimes when you argue you may just conceded cause the argument may not be worth the hassle cause you already understand how the argument will go like and how it ends. Because you understand their thought process and personality so well. That you could almost predict its conclusion.

I’ve been married for 7 years. Old people always assume marriages is great because we’re still young. No. It’s because we understand that it’s us vs problems not spouse vs spouse. That requires patience, communication, and compassion. Which seems to be in short supply for a lot of people.

I disagree. They don’t hate their wives, they love their wives. That’s why they put their wives happiness above their own. They dont feel having to regulate their wives emotions is worth being ‘right’.
