The ability to communicate with people in their own tongue is very important to create a bond with them. A vast amount of people will be influenced because they understand what he is saying without interpretation. I am so grateful to Pope Leo XIV that he studied his languages. I foresee growth in Catholicism on this point alone.

Well, pope Francis was Argentinian and so his native language was Spanish and that’s the language he felt most comfortable speaking in - as a person who lived in Argentina for some time and I know Spanish, it was also super special and touching hearing pope Francis speaking Spanish - just because some people couldn’t understand him cause they can’t speak Spanish doesn’t mean it was less special

He is the first US born Pope (North America) the first “American” pope was Pope Francis!!!! And why you spect to travel to another country and have people speak English to you? And then tell people in the US speaking other languages to speak English?? Weird!!

Im not college educated, not catholic, I am bilingual, (can read quite a few languages) yet I have somehow manage to appreciate n find every single Pope (many religious leaders) very personable, charming. Can’t imagine a journalist that isn’t curious/smart enough to learn other languages.

Communication is always key. Make sure that you all also learn to communicate in other people’s languages so you’re not waiting around 10 or 15 years to be able to be heard and understood. If we were actually to take the time and learn other people‘s cultures and languages, this world would be so much better.
