@egibert666: The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II is an American tandem two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather, long-range supersonic jet interceptor and fighter-bomber that was developed by McDonnell Aircraft for the United States Navy. It entered service with the Navy in 1961. A total of 5,195 Phantoms were built from 1958 to 1981, making it the most-produced American supersonic military aircraft in history and a signature combat aircraft of the Cold War. The F-4 Phantom II has been operated by several countries besides the United States. These include Australia, Egypt, Germany, Greece, Iran, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. The F-4 Phantom II remains in active service with the air forces of Iran, Greece, and Turkey. The F-4 Phantom II played a significant role in the Imperial Iranian Air Force (IIAF) and remains in service with the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF). The IIAF acquired approximately 225 F-4Ds, F-4Es, and RF-4Es between the 1960s and 1970s. While the Iranian Revolution and subsequent US arms embargo significantly impacted the fleet, Iran has managed to keep a substantial portion of its F-4s flying through reverse engineering, local production of spare parts, and cannibalization of damaged aircraft.
