It's appalling that an applicant can spend an hour or more on a company application form, as they are not generic, and there is no acknowledgement or feedback.

As a manager, I advertised 1 part time job on just over minimum wage and received a ridiculous amount of applicants. All uni educated. It was heartbreaking for me as my daughter is currently at Uni. I’m worried for her!

Tony Blair told us that if we got a degree, we would earn £20k more than a peer that didn’t. I was a fool for believing this.

Engineering is the same, the biggest lie is the uk is desperate for engineers. Desperate for experienced engineers yes, nobody wants grads. I got on a grad scheme that was hiring 20 grads and they had 2000 applicants

Degree must have economic value - medicine, engineering , sciences, computing not media studies, art, theatre studies, literature , etc 👍

I wanted to be a footballer, wasn’t good enough so gave it up and started working in a factory for £3.52 an hour. Worked hard and 10 years later I’m the product manager on £45,000 a year. It’s about working hard and proving you’re willing to work hard, it’s not just about having the kmowledge

I have 23 years experience, numerous degrees and other quals, led teams that influenced national govt policy and a whole wealth of other experience and knowledge.
I often get calls to work for minimum wage. This is why I've ended up contracting for the past few years. Many employers just want to have a cheap workforce and expect you to be grateful for it.
This is particularly insulting when you consider that many companies boast on their websites of over a billion in turnover, etc, but refuse to pay their staff a decent wage. The uk market has crashed and companies don't respect your worth.

The university route stopped being “worth it” about 20 years ago (with the obvious exception of when you NEED a qualification for a particular job, such as doctors, lawyers, etc)

Really making me question whether I should have kids. It’s dysotopian that hightly educated and motivated people are fighting for the privilege of selling their life away for most likely a wage they can’t live off….

Tom says some reasonable stuff at times, but the more you listen, the more unhinged his opinions become, he supports English nationalism, a capitalist and belittle minorities, he also platforms right wing guests

It all depends on what university you go to. Universities are ranked in tiers. If you graduate from a University in the top tier you are guaranteed a job.

Try applying 49 jobs per week. Try getting an interview and then not hearing back. Try being unemployed for 3yrs. Try doing an AI interview. Try seeing the job you applied for, same reference number listed 3months after being ghosted by HR. 😤

Only worth it if you're in STEM. We made the mistake of saying everyone should go to uni as opposed to the people who were suited for it and now the market is flooded with graduates.
