I was too mentally exhausted to play or read books. Even when I did, I wasn’t present. I didn’t have the energy to go outside or take any of my kids to activities or birthday parties. I was triggered by things like painting, coloring eggs, making valentines, or going to the beach... and I avoided them, honestly. The thought of a mess was more than I could handle. So I avoided projects in their childhood. … can you relate? I felt a lot of shame around this. I thought it was just who I was as a mom.  AND THEN 😭 9 years into my 11 years of sobriety, I learned about the gut-brain connection. 90% of serotonin is there! I started a new supplement routine and I am not joking when I say it changed my life. I started feeling like ME again. I wanted to play with my kids and do things with them. I stopped reacting in such an intense way and was able to be in the moment. When they started noticing my change in mood I knew it wasn’t just in my head. Their little, “is it okay mommy? Are you not mad?” almost broke me. That’s not the mom I wanted to be and now they get the one they deserve. I wasn’t broken, I just needed to support my gut to products more dopamine + serotonin 🙏🏻 The drastic change in my parenting has given me so much peace and compassion for myself. I don’t know who needs to hear this.. but you’re not the problem.
