If we made a bacteria that is harmless to us, and eats plastic, could we use it to eat microplastics out of our blood? could anything be done to lessen risks from this bacteria building up?

There were a few bacterial species that they pinpointed in a regular human gut Microbiome that they thought potentially could break down plastic – I did a video on this last year and I got hundreds of comments saying yay so glad I get to eat plastic now… And yeah, I had to correct them that we can’t digest plastic and you do eat plastic with everybody of food that you eat and that’s not good

Could this be used to our advantage for the cleanup of plastic pollutants?

couldn't we engineer those bacteria to clean out the plastic on our body's but some how create it harmless in ourselves?

I wonder though if this mutation could be used in gene therapies to allow our own immune system to digest the micro plastics?

this has blown my mind I'm gonna have to process this. does this show some evidence that modern day medicine/slash hospital stays could actually not be best port of call for every person..obvs very complex but then that this could be some confirmation that having holistic knowledge is important as a more natural setting/treatments actually could protect those prone to more infection in a place they actually should be getting better.. hope this makes sense 😂 absolutely fascinated by this 👏❤️

Interesting(scary) to think about a potential super spreader microbe that grows from wastewater streams that would include microbes capable of deteriorating plastic and accumulated microplastics. I wonder if the enzymatic environment for the redox deterioration of plastics by microbes is even possible within the human body system? Like what the rate of deterioration would be and what the redox potential of some parts of the human body might be where plastic is accumulated?

I’m always surprised how many things can digest plastic, the other day my gecko’s superworms chewed a hole in the lid of the container I had them in and sure enough, they’re capable of eating it. It’s not a great food source but they’re able to

I imagine everything we make out of plastic has the potential to rot when bacteria that can devour it are widespread enough and they will spread because plastic is everywhere.
