@nigeltatem: $300k is too much to ask. I lost my entire college savings (~$100k) in one year here. I’ll find another way, or I’ll transfer. I plan to transfer FA ‘26 so I’ll be here one more year to figure another way. Maybe before then I’ll decide to stay, but until then, I’m working to change things. Thank you guys

Wait how are you not getting financial aid? Just tell your college what you are going through, they’ll give you aid

I’m a bit confusedddd. If you’re not getting aid from CORNELL, a private school, you don’t need it…? And if you’re that committed on going to Cornell, take out the public loans lol

If you want to stay at Cornell, it seems to me the easiest solution is a cocktail of mitigations. You could take a year at cc or a local public uni and take classes that transfer (pre clear this with admin). Thats a year of credits for like 10k. While you’re home, get a job, ideally something swe or adjacent. Money from that should cover like a semester of cost. When you go to tell Cornell admin that you’re doing this get a meeting with finaid to explain the situation and the steps you’re taking to pay for it. They’re not going to cover all of it but I suspect there will be some play if they understand the lengths you’re going to. With an on campus job when you return and some negotiationed aid that should cover you for the next 2 years. At that point, you will have had more time to develop solutions. You’ll also be close with a reasonable loan amount.

I come from a low income household and fafsa should cover you somewhat. But im not sure about out of state schools. Either way if your household make less than $100k the school and fafsa should cover at least a good amount
