having my own child helped me reparent myself. when you realize how easy it is to choose your child, it pisses you off that nobody chose you. I'm sorry you had that life but you are now the parent you needed

Read adult children of emotionally immature parents. It gives a lot of closure and not an excuse for them but allows you to understand they are a product of their environment as well with less tools than us

Whenever I show general competence in any areas of my life, my mom likes to laugh and say “well I never taught you how to do that!!” and I’ve come to realize that she has literally never taught me how to do anything besides constantly doubt and hate myself.

Yep, I started taking care of myself around 5. She used to brag about everything I could do, I was her slave until I left. I was always told kids were meant to be slaves to their parents. We've been NC for yrssss.
