EE PhD here. I've never once used the imaginary calculator, so I doubt it's particularly important. Most of the time when you're doing complex calculations, it'll be best done on paper anyway. I'd skip the calculator

I dropped out of engineering school almost 20 years ago. Work as an air traffic infrastructure technician. Have to do a lot of sketches, and still use engineering paper today. Can’t do statics, but the paper stuck with me.

a good tablet is best. you can use an engineering paper template on your notes app and store all your notes on your cloud. I can access all my notes from my entire time at school and not hurt my back.

my uni only allows us to use FE approved calculators so I have been stuck using TI-30xs. (of course this also means the problems tend to be a little easier i believe)

That calculator....dunno. Converting between rectangular and polar is a basic skill not much harder than addition/subtraction. Use trig or Pythagoras.
