For the elliptical, it’s generally less effective for cardio compared to incline walking or the StairMaster because it provides a lower impact, less intense workout that doesn’t engage as many muscle groups as deeply - unless done at a high resistance. Otherwise, it’s great! While it’s easier on the joints, it often results in lower heart rate elevation and calorie burn than the more physically demanding options. But cardio is cardio! Elliptical machine is goated though so easy on your joints. It’s probably the lowest impact cardio you can do so it’s amazing for longevity (just behind swimming)

Back squats are a compound exercise that imo are the best full leg workout. If you hurt your back, it’s your form. Lower the weight and make sure your form is solid.
