@sineadbovell: We’ve entered a new chapter for education. The safest assumption we can now make is that everything that happens at home is co-created with an AI. Flipping what happens in the home and what happens in class is a start (like having students write essays in class instead of at home). But it goes deeper than that. We need to double down on strengthening critical thinking, deep learning, and higher-order reasoning.
When will school begin to teach children to manage life. How to manage finance, how to work out tax and tax codes, how to cut wood and change a light??? 90% of what we learn at school is never used!!! 👈

Tell us you’re not in a classroom without telling us. We already do that. Assessments are now in class. The dopamine hit is the problem - creating lazy thinkers, with an immediate need for gratification, & no naturally created thinking skills. We can’t fill the gap. I teach Applied History.

We just experienced ChatGPT being used for a government medical report that was completely inaccurate. Since when do we tell people they don’t need to know something because a computer already knows it.

ABSOLUTELY NOT. Being home is not time for learning. It’s free time. Y’all not bringing more school into after school hours.

The beginning of education reform is eliminating testing of all kinds. Testing does not increase education in humans. Its use is political.

We need regulations to reduce kids tech access. 8th graders don’t need generative ai.

teach them things that are relevant to the age in which they live, AI is here, teach them how to use it properly, the issue isn't the kids learning, the issue is the teachers learning, there are two stubborn and claim to be too underpaid to have to learn new tricks. the teachers are the ones that are the problem, at least where I live

Does this mean that the educational system is actually finally forced to teach critical thinking?

This assumes kids are doing work at home and/or have internet access at home.

I think that all formal learning must take place at school. All research work, projects must be done at school. 🙏🏼

She forgot that teachers are about to be replaced with AI too. It is better at teaching, because it adjusts individually to every kid better than a teacher could with 20+ kids.

I don’t fully agree! I think school in 2025 should start 2-4 weeks later for kids & 2-3 weeks earlier for teachers. Teachers to learn how to use and prompt Ai…we are so behind lol 🤖 💔

Spot on! Khan Academy had a great TED talk about flipping what is done at home and at school. AI makes it even more important.

Teachers use AI all the time! Teach kids to think by critiquing AI answers! Prove AI wrong. Not all AI is bad. My son struggles w math, we work together & we use AI to see if we’re correct. I help to figure out what we need to do.

as a teacher, so what do we do when the knowledge is biased or false… so we have students thinking their teachers are not telling them the truth and are discrediting their knowledge

My bigger question is…once AI is doing a ton of human jobs and tasks, what will the human brain be doing? What will its purpose be?

May I add that AI gives erroneous answers at times? Not always a good path to do your own research.
