I recently had a patient told me that his birthday was the next day and he would love to have a birthday cake. I went to the store after my shift and bought him a birthday cake and some balloons. He cried, saying he didn’t know how long it had been since anyone celebrated his birthday.

I had an 18 y/o. heard her on the phone, her mom screaming at her that she wasn't buying her new clothes just to leave the hospital. she asked me with tears in her eyes if she could go home in the gown. I went to Walmart after my shift to pick her up some clothes and a blanket.

I spent an hour once washing my patients shorts. Everyone complained that the room smelled so bad, but no one thought hey maybe their clothes are dirty? Went from brown to light green. patient was unhoused. Nursing is meeting the patient where they are at and going from there.

My coworkers and I decorated a non alert patients room for Valentine’s Day, and put plush flowers in his hand so when his wife arrived she could be surprised ❤️

I like bringing in my sewing machine when I work night shifts and let residents bring me their clothes so I can fix them :) it takes 5 mins and it makes them feel human again :)

When I was a student I really wanted to take full care of the patients. Like I had such an urge to give them a haircut, clip their nails and clean them fully but of course it wasn’t doable lol am i crazy?

I once spent 3 hours after shift helping a woman get the matted blood out of her beautiful long hair (after her husband pushed her out of a moving truck..). The amount of hate I got for staying over (off the clock) to do this was UNREAL.

Our EVS workers will wash patient clothes and return them to the room if we give it to them in a bag with their id sticker on it 🤍 perks of a small hospital.

They don’t have washing machines at the hospital? I ruined my clothes on my way to the hospital to give birth and they gave them back to me at discharge completely clean

You’re so kind. We had to take our toddler to the ER last night my husband said while we were back in triage, a homeless man came in and asked to take a nap in the waiting room. They told him yes and asked if he wanted to be seen. He really only wanted to take a nap in the waiting room. When we left he was comfortably reading in a bed. Idk if they checked him in, but I thought it was so thoughtful (minus the possible bill, if they did see him).
