@caiusschools: Are extracurriculars important for Cambridge? Chris explains #cambridge #oxbridge #oxford #uni #university #apply #ucas #alevels #admissions #personalstatement #comingtocaius #fyp
That’s interesting. My Oxford college were very much interested in what else people could bring into college life and felt extra curricular shaped them as a person. They didn’t want one dimensional swots

I feel that mentioning being a competitive swimmer alongside academics and academic interests, shows that I can handle a large workload and organize time since I have limited hours to study due to training. Am I wrong?

Do you read "My name is Prince Edward and I got D,D,E at A level" then say, welcome to Cambridge? Not a meritocracy.

I had a friend who decided against Oxbridge because they got the impression there wouldn’t be time or opportunity to pursue their extra curriculars at Oxbridge - especially because Oxbridge say they don’t care about extracurriculars in personal statements. This was touched on briefly in the video, but Oxbridge has the most amazing extra curricular opportunities!!!! Even though it’s not considered in applications, this doesn’t mean you won’t have time or opportunity to do your sport/ music/ poetry/ drama to an amazing level here. My friend and I didn’t go to a school with high Oxbridge intake, so we didn’t have much information around this. Just wanted to highlight this further!

As a former Caius student, this is how it should be! UCAS/general uni application culture pressurises students to spend a lot of time doing extra curriculars tokenistically because they think it will look good on their application/CV

Could I talk about extra curriculars that don’t immediately relate to a subject that I’m applying for but help me and link to the subject in a unique way? For example, I’m intending to apply for physics but I’ve been artistic my whole life and have spent many years going to art classes, the skills that help me visualise surroundings, an objects dimensions and positions, and how light would reflect in paintings make mechanics and moments rather easy to me. Would you consider that relevant enough to talk about?

Would love to know your thoughts on this - I went to a very underperforming state school for most of my life, then moved to a private school later on. My grades shot up quickly, but not because of extra support - I had to catch up on my own and just worked really hard. Would that kind of self-driven progress show academic potential to Cambridge?

Keep Oxbridge for British students first and foremost who will have a propensity to remain in the UK and contribute to growing and building our country to make it Great Britain again!

Did any of these commenters listen to what he said? You can do all the extracurricular activities you want, but make sure it’s the ones directly relevant to your course of study that you tell them about.

And it really shows in our society Cambridge does not care about amazing humans it just wants academic results. This is so short sighted.
