I will say as someone who lives in barcelona this is so blown up in the press and online. I haven’t seen or heard of anyone doing these protests this year and last year there was one time. This is scaremongering and blowing things so far out or proportion

Personally I think the problem is tourists themselves! I always try to be as respectful as possible (especially because Americans have a bad rep) but the amount of entitled, rude and just out of hand tourists I’ve seen is wild!

Their backbone is based on tourism. They should be so happy. Maybe blame their govt who allows landlords to use AirBNB’s to jack up rents. So tourists are not to blame!

not true I'm still there and talk to ppl about this, it's nothing to do with tourists it to do with air bnbs, they are buying up the properties in the country and locals can't get a property as the prices become to high

Misdirected anger..they’re anger needs to b directed at their Govt that need to control capacity into their country. They’re misdirected anger shld not b towards the innocent tourist.. Tourist shld only stay at hotels& hostels not AB&B’s..Spain survives on tourism. there’s was a time they were begging for d tourist to come to Spain..I agree on all that ur saying..

when I was over there more than 50% of Spain didn't work. They're all at the beach. If tourism leaves the entire economy will tank. I think the gov should make them sit down and be humble

They’re not tired of tourism they’re tired of people buying apartments to use as Airbnb’s driving the locals out of the real estate market, which means they can’t afford to live in their own cities because of speculative real estate buying and using it for Airbnb. That’s the big problem.

I’m kind of freaking out, I’m travelling the world by myself right now but I’m staying in hostels. I’m meant to be spending a month travelling through Spain in a few weeks and I’m only just hearing about this now… should I be worried?

do not agree with protest. unaffordable housing is a big problem being faced by many countries especially America, Canada, and spain. because it is global, I doubt it is caused by tourism
