"Adiemus" uses a made-up language. Composer Karl Jenkins created the phonetic language specifically for the song, using vocals as an instrument. The song was originally commissioned for a 1994 Delta Air Lines commercial. Miriam Stockley, not Enya, is the lead vocalist on "Adiemus." Jenkins chose Stockley for her wide vocal range. While made up, "Adiemus" roughly translates to "we will draw near" in Latin. Jenkins was unaware of this when he chose the title. The song blends musical influences from African, Celtic, and Native American traditions.
