I'm sorry do young men being told culturally that their job as men is to provide financial security to their partners, really not see the benefit of the government enabling their financial security? The value to lonely people is eliminating finance as a barrier to love.

Agreed - part of my journey to the left is learning to be comfortable with being uncomfortable learning about how my privilege benefitted me in an unfair system and how to be a better person and advocate. David and Hasan are arguing that men need to be coddled their way into the left and that’s not how it works.

Idk if bullying will work on that demo because bullying usually only works on people who feel they have something to lose but I know the solution wasn't to keep using HRC's failures to insinuate any legitimate criticism from feminists was progressive sabotage for YEARS. The well was poisoned with the promise of bringing over young men and it didn't work. The passive aggressive insinuation by all the loudest voices that if only these hysterical women would chill is the real (unintentional?) sabotage imo.

i think what a big part of the problem is is the left has been ineffective at actually getting their ideas into reality. whereas the right has been effective. they are siding with the side that looks better at getting things done. so if the left wants to attract more support we need to walk the walk. not just talk the talk.

Another reason a lot of people get stuck in the pipeline is bc it feels like the sunk cost fallacy, they know they’re wrong but they’ve already been hateful and they think there’s no going back. Even tho it’s easy as just stop and start doing better.

Yeah I had the same 4chan vs tumblr and felt more drawn to and embraced by tumblr. I loved the fandom and art and people actually talking and explaining. 100% that pulled me into feminism and socialism and the left A LOT.

For me it was early 2013/2015 Twitter that pulled me out of the alt right pipeline I was going on, specifically the mutuals I made there through the Metal Gear Solid Community, and equally the LGBTQAI+ Community I was arguing while I was holding Bigoted and Transphobic views, and getting reality checked (rightfully so) by people who were willing to show me empathy, and ultimately teach me how wrong I was.

I agree 100% with the idea that young men need someone to actually explain things to them, but the idea that anyone is beyond saving isn't entirely accurate imo. some people might be harder to talk to, but there's no such thing as a lost cause. daryl davis managed to talk kkk members into giving up their robes, I think everyone deserves to have an olive branch of understanding. of course it's hard work and most people would do better to just disengage with the alt-right, but everyone deserves a chance to do better.
