Fear is a part of parenting! There is a difference between being fearful of a parent actually physically, mentally or emotionally abusing you vs having fear of consequences from that parent when you mess up!

I have definitely heard family members older co workers talk about how back in the the got hit for lil shit like forgetting to take the trash out or breaking their things over a single bad grade no talking no nothing just straight to a smack

Im a young adult, and i think a little fear is necessary because if not they will see that you arent willing to do certain things and take advantage of that, but i do agree with him saying to not belittle, disrespect or go striaght to putting hands on them anytime something happens, because if it goes like that they'll br too scared to express it to u because of the fear of what u might do and as time goes on it'll jus build up and most likely turn into hatred towards you from those experiences and depending how deep it is could lead to very bad things on both sides, whether that be the kid doing something to the parent, them taking it out on the world, them finding relief from it through drugs, now dont get me wrong there are time where kids use it as fuel for their dreams, ambitions, and to prove you wrong but in my opinionits a small percent of tht happening
