@abcworldnews: A man in Gulf Breeze, Florida was hospitalized after being attacked by a bear in his backyard while protecting his dog. Whit Johnson reports.
Land developers want more land for houses and condos. Where is the wildlife supposed to go?

They are only putting this incident in the national news because Florida is trying to legalize a new black bear hunt without doing the research on actual population numbers….we used to have a black bear hunting season and last time they had a black bear hunt it had to be canceled two days into the two week season because the numbers that were allocated to be harvested were already dispatched within the first two days and would have not left a sustainable population if they had let the hunt continue to run for the season…they are using this as propaganda to further the agenda of their being too many for the safety of the population growth in Florida..we still don’t want the hunt..where do all these people moving here think the wildlife is going to go?

I live here. This isn’t a common thing and it’s NOT the bears fault. Sorry the guy was bit, but it wasn’t an attack.

i used to live in GB, and that is not a normal occurrence at all. i feel for the man and his dog, but also this wasn’t an “attack” in my eyes. all of that new construction and development through that area has continually pushed the wildlife out of their homes and into our front/backyards. it’s NOT their fault! we can definitely coexist with each other but at what point are the county/state officials going to say enough is enough and start PROTECTING what’s left of our wildlife and nature?

Our bears aren’t usually aggressive here but the over development of our state has pushed them out of their homes and caused them to become aggressive out of necessity. We don’t need a bear hunt we need better legislation to save Florida from DR Horton and similar builders. They clear cut thousands of acres, pay off surveyors and county commissioners to build on protected swamp land, they flood our existing communities all to build cardboard houses that aren’t holding up in the next major storm

I live in this county. We are too crowded and development keeps going and ruining our beaches and farmland and forest. Our bears are being pushed out of their homes! Crooked developers just keep buying land left and right! What once was woods outside the forestry is fading away. Houses go up daily from the beach to the woodlands! Subdivision built in what use to be farmland! It’s ridiculous and if something isn’t done about all this development in Florida and the crooked politicians and developers all over Florida ant stopped there will be no more nature preserves or forest or swamps for our animals!

Not to victim blame, this is bad, BUT there are bears were I live also in Florida and we aren’t allowed to leave garbage outside because it attracts them.

A LOCAL HERE…. STOP MOVING HERE ANIMALS HAVE NO WHERE TO GO AND THEY KEEP SELLING LAND!!!! The wildlife have to roam the neighborhoods because in some areas, there are no woods for miles rather than houses upon houses.

See, 4 1/2 years ago, they were in yards and not dangerous. They’re still building and the bear are become more defiant. I suppose

it's not common, I live here. But keep over developing their areas guess what happens they come into areas that used to be theirs to find food. maybe we need to stop over developing and tearing down their homes. more and more people have moved here causing housing to go up like everywhere in areas that used to be forest.
