I’m living that exact scenario right now Dan. I’m ten years into a marriage that I never really wanted. And youth minister at my church. But I spend hours watching gay adult videos, wishing I was in them. I want out but I don’t have the finances for a divorce. I wish I knew what to do.

When my cousin who was gay my whole upbringing, joined the church, married a man and had a child. Told me I should pray about it, I was embarrassed for her. (Her marriage failed within a year.)

I was forced raised as both devote Catholic and Anglian (same time/also perfect attendance), then my family converted to Mormon when I was 12. When I ran away at 16 to the mainland, I’d be approached by the church and I’d tell them, nah “I gave up self-hatred, when I got on my knees”. I’ve healed since then but the stories. Oof. The ‘elders’ who were really repressed by choice and stigma; turned out to be amongst the most traumatic experiences for me as a hell fearing closet-case youth in seminary.
