travel tip from an Italian...wherever you are, try to only eat local food. I NEVER eat Italian when I'm abroad, and I always try to eat only local food. I've never been disappointed

Just got back from Italy and honestly… kind of disappointed with the food. So many spots felt like tourist traps. I’m from Melbourne and even our local pasta joints (including a new fast food one near me!) serve better quality and flavour. Not just me — a lot of my customers say the same!

Travel to Italy has encouraged me to cook my own Italian food at home and buy from Italian stores that know /import quality Italian ingredients

I know what you mean. I was in London last week for a conference and my client wanted to eat Italian. I convinced him to go out for pub food instead.

I was in Barcelona just before Rome, and so many of the recommendations were Italian food. It was so hard to avoid, but we had great French, Chinese, Ethiopian, and Indian food while we were there

I can honestly say this is a hard disagree to your statement. I prefer Italian food in the US. Rome has good food but that is not all of Italy.

I don’t live in Italy, but have been there several times (I’m also of Italian descent, from the south). I live in the US and I don’t want to go to “Italian restaurants here.” And the ones that serve good Italian food are super expensive.

Do you have any videos on what you actually need to buy tickets for in advance? Like which sights? I keep seeing things about booking main attractions 3 months in advance.. that seems crazy!

My weird travel thing though is I like to try Chinese food anywhere I travel to. There’s always variations and I’m excited to try it in Italy when I visit too!

I’m italian and my rule is never eat italian abroad. Not only you will never know the local food culture but you will be disapointed 99% of the time. Italian restaurants are for locals who want to try italian food or for people who doesn’t understand what travel means.

"Italian food" outside Italy is catered for that countries perception of what Italian food is. Not what you actually see in Italy.

There are Italian restaurants in California that rival those in Italy. Blind tasting and you couldn’t guess 😅 But yes you’re correct in general !
