@nypost: A drunk driver who killed two young siblings when she plowed her SUV into a Michigan children’s birthday party told the grief-stricken family she’d “appreciate” their forgiveness as she learned her fate in court. Marshella Chidester, 67, was handed a 25- to 50-year prison sentence on May 15 for the deadly crash that killed 8-year-old Alanah Phillips and her 4-year-old brother, Zayn. Her blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit when she crashed 25 feet through Swan Creek Boat Club in Newport, where children and their parents were enjoying the birthday festivities on April 20, 2024. “The grief has been unbearable,” Mariah Dodds, the devastated mother, told the court at sentencing. “She took everything in my life and destroyed it.” Alarming footage captured the convicted boozer’s blue car darting through the club’s parking lot before slamming into and obliterating the side of the Berlin Township building. Both children died at the scene, with the catastrophic wreck severely injuring 13 others. “I’ve asked the Lord to forgive me,” Chidester said during her feeble plea for mercy. “And I ask you to at least look into your heart and at some point, if you can possibly forgive me, I would appreciate that so much.” Chidester was convicted of second-degree murder and other charges in March after a four-day trial, during which her legal team claimed that a leg injury caused her to press down hard on the gas pedal. They further argued that she only had one glass of wine before getting behind the wheel. Chidester will be eligible for parole in 25 years — when she’s 92 years old. 📸: AP

My brother was ran over by a drunk driver. Him and his family tried to say he was asking for it (suggested he jumped in front) and then insisted on a restraining order against us. People are disgusting.

Imagine that a boomer, even when found guilty. Not taking accountability and making it about themselves

Her lawyers claimed she had one glass of wine and a leg injury caused her to press the gas pedal too hard. Her BAC was twice the legal limit. That doesn't happen from one glass of wine.

its hard, but it is our lord’s teaching. unforgiveness can lead to a cycle of bitterness and resentment, ultimately harming the individual who is unforgiving. Forgiveness is not always about the other person; it can be a gift to oneself, freeing the individual from the burden of holding onto anger and hurt.

My mother was killed 39 years ago today by a drunk driver there was not one drop of forgiveness in my heart since myself and my siblings when our entire life without having our mom when you go out and have a drink and consequences are not in your mind, that’s not an accident when you go out and drink and get behind a wheel that’s not an accident. It’s truly unfortunate. That laws are so lenient when it comes to DUI things have to change it’s always the innocent that leave this world

I was in horrific accident when I was 22 and my husband of 5 months was 24, he was killed and I severely injured. It was an accident no alcohol or drugs involved. The other driver apologized and was sincere in his apology. I forgave because he was worthy of that forgiveness. He didn't ask for it, but deserved it. This drunk woman doesn't deserve forgiveness nor should expect or ask for it.

A 100% avoidable accident and she wants forgiveness? Not even if she had plead guilty.
