Afghanistan tragically missed a golden opportunity during Dr. Najibullah's era to become a secular, modern, and prosperous nation. Instead, it fell into the hands of the Taliban; a consequence of the United States' desire to weaken Russia, preventing Afghanistan from aligning with the opposing power bloc. Sadly, this geopolitical game came at the cost of ordinary, peace-loving Afghans.

I don't support him or his communist ideology. He's right to point out the hypocrisy. It's striking how 'holy war' used when it comes to conflicts involving US enemies, and millions will follow, but it's strange when it comes to the Palestinian people, the blockade of Gaza is a stark example - millions of Muslims live nearby, yet seemingly no one can be bothered to even smuggle in basic necessities like water and baby food for the starving population. No guns needed, just some good old-fashioned humanitarian aid. That'd be a truly holy act, and if you died doing it, you'd be a selfless martyr. I do think most people are good and unfortuantely get caught up in larger conflicts. They're pawns in a game, manipulated and tricked into fighting each other. No benefit for any side at the end.
