I have social anxiety so bad I couldn’t use public transport for a long time, headphones are a tool for me to help me calm down when I’m feeling anxious also not having my headphones doesn’t mean im going to be your bestie. If you want to make friends go to a bar or a concert not the subway at 7 am while im barely alive and only want to jump through the window

most female presenting people are not stopped to have a nice conversation. they stop you to give you uncomfortable unwarranted conversation. headphones help with this issue.

i wear headphones because I get overstimulated with sounds, people still start conversations with me and I don't mind it, since a lot of the time the conversation are basically just "hey I like *blank* where did yoh get that? Oh why thank you, I got it at *place*" the only people that I don't like are tourists but specifically the ones from my country because they think since I live in a tourist city I have to know every attraction and where it is, and that's the only time I find it frustrating. I feel like a lot of people wear headphones to listen to music especially where I live, since it's pretty loud here and getting it tuned out is great. Universally, I would say think twice before talking to a stranger on a street/bus and check for body language if you start a conversation to see if they are comfortable, it's that easy

Idk if it’s a culture thing but here in the uk, striking up a conversation with a stranger out in public is incredibly rare. You’d be considered weird for doing so.
