Renting out a property is typically a business transaction designed to make a profit for the landlord. Local laws may offer tennants rights but it usually comes boils down to the initial signed rental agreement.

Have been in the same apartment for nearly 10 years. The management company would love for my roommate and I to leave. With the average price of a 2 bedroom at 1,900 paying only 1100 is a great deal. So we are not going anywhere.

In the U.S. if you are perfect tenant (rent paid on time, no problems) that would be an unlawful eviction. There are laws that require landlords to have a valid reason to evict. Just to make more money is not good reason.
