Looking it from a finicial standpoint it feels like Tim saw a way to write Peter Krause and Angela Basset off the show. Angela Basset did say that she would do the show as long as Peter Krause did. Plus with how amazing Angela Basset is she doesn’t need 9-1-1. 9-1-1 needs her.

I also think that maybe he was planning on bringing him back but so many people assumed that he wasn't dead/ there was a strong reaction to Bobby's death he nixed bringing him back out of spite. I realized he wasn't coming back after Peter's letter saying it was for fallen firefighters bc Peter wouldn't go back on something like that
