Yeah, the lying in politics is one of the most frustrating and corrosive parts of the whole system. It erodes trust, fuels cynicism, and makes it hard to believe anything from either side. Politicians make promises to get elected, then shift the goalposts or blame “changing circumstances” when they don’t deliver. And when they’re caught out, the spin machines kick into gear, turning accountability into a PR exercise.
In Australia, it’s not unique to one party either—Labor, Liberal, Nationals, Greens—they’ve all had moments where truth took a back seat to strategy. Whether it’s about taxes, climate policy, immigration, Indigenous issues, or even pork-barrelling in marginal seats, there’s always a level of calculated messaging designed to win votes, not necessarily to tell the full story.
What’s worse is when media outlets align themselves with political agendas, amplifying the dishonesty or distracting from it, depending on their lean. Makes it hard for regular people to cut through the noise.
