I fear this take tries so hard to be leftist that it swings back towards the right. Undermining the intellectual ability of women because they were pressured into getting cosmetic surgery in order to be treated better by society is inherently misogynistic. It ignores the systemic issues that contribute to WHY women would get these procedures done in the first place, and reinforces stereotypes about a woman’s appearance dictating her intelligence.

this is such a crazy take to me bc all of the arguments are that 1. women who get plastic surgery are feeding into patriarchal ideals or 2. they care how others view them but never ONCE in my adult life have i thought to myself “i need to be pretty for someone else” but i do need to feel pretty for myself. i like to look a certain, unique way because it makes me feel good about myself. and if i choose that a nose job will make me feel better about myself, that does not mean i am not intellectual. such a strange concept to have
