wont the local install quickly become outdated, in terms of capabilities? Currently I don't mind allowing chatgpt to use my data in exchange for always having the latest and greatest model.

Yes but they are currently not allowed to sell data just use it to improve and if they will ever sell data you will have the option to say no and also you can disable data collection, just ask chatgpt
