@nytimes: Eradicated in the 1900s, coyotes have returned to San Francisco. They're ubiquitous, and some residents find them delightful, while others view them with disdain. Our reporter explains what’s going on. #coyote #sanfrancisco
A big part of the problem is that people in San Francisco do NOT appropriately leash their dogs. And I say that as a dog owner and lover.

Doesn’t surprise me at all that the rich folk in San Francisco want to kill off anything that inconveniences them

We’ve taken over their natural home, we have to learn to coexist

Bad pet owners with off leash dogs are a bigger problem than coyotes tbh

You’re not walking your dog if it’s off leash!

Coyotes are so deserving of sharing this land with us, I read quite a few books growing up talking about the history of coyotes being persecuted. There’s over 16 pack territories in SF currently. Humans destroyed their prospects in the world, we can shift to coexist better. As we invest in the nature coyotes & wildlife live in, we benefit too! And less dog attacks that way too 🤍

Coyotes are native. They belong here as much as we do. Irresponsibility is what causes harms to pets and coyotes

It sucks but you can’t fight nature when we need it. If anything I don’t think they should kill them but trap and relocate. But we need wildlife for the ecosystem. People should try being more mindful in ways they can with their small pets and keep them indoors, even cats.

They’re more native to the area than we are. We have no right to eradicate them.

idk if its true but when I was a kid we had a pack of coyotes that were killing off too many house cats so they found the pack leader and either euthanized them or moved them to another area and the rest of them stopped eating the cats bc they were just following the leader or smth

i am an ANIMAL lover you can’t preach loving animals and only respect dogs. Coyotes called this land their home first we should respect that. The city is doing the right thing only intervening in cases of emergency.
