This was never the case. The square root of 9 is always 3. But if x^2=3, then x=+-3

That was true the whole time. It’s only ± when you’re solving for a variable like x^2 = 9 means x = ±3

The square root of a positive number already doesn’t include the negative root. Square root of 25 is only +5. If x^2 = 25 then x = +-5. Don’t make a maths video when you don’t even understand it

sqrt(9) = 3. if x^2 = 9, x = 3, -3.

alfie_chenery :
technically already the case. the sqrt symbol is defined as the positive root only. But when you say x²=4 that has two solutions. 2 and -2. that's why you might write ±sqrt(4) because sqrt doesn't include the - one, you need the ± explicitly

the square root of 9 already is positive 3. only. not negative 3. that's true now. in the present. and the past, also.

it's never been 3 or -3, the square root is only the positive value, as we can see in the function graph
