Nintendo hated the entire contract they signed with Sony over the Sound Chip,they didn’t even know Sony was trying to enter gaming and would use that as a backdoor. How could anyone blame them?

e.t. didn't kill 80s gaming. open sorce games killed it with no quality control they released so many subpar amd just down right horrible games that the industry failed under the weight of lack of interest until Nintendo hit the market

Likewise Sega helped Microsoft break into the console industry. A handful of Dreamcast games ran on MS's WinCE OS.

PlayStation 2 had 8 core processor, same core used in the power mac but with more cores! The first generation units could load mac os making it the fastest mac pc of its day!

PS2 really caught on because it played DVDs and it was the same price (or even cheaper?) than DVD players of the time, so it was like getting a free gaming console or DVD player depending on what you wanted.
