I assume it's somehow cheaper. Once a show has a set look and format, pretty much anyone can step in to direct. Having them do only one ep gives them less leverage, and they prolly give more free labor to make sure their one ep is great.

It’s for a faster turnaround. While one Director is working on one episode another director works on another episode. So if you have eight episode, you can have a director film each episode in tandem.

I heard directors barely have any power with tv shows unlike movies where they have the majority of the power.

The answer they give is it takes more than a week but the director to finish his vision so they have an extra director come in so the other director can edit and do the rest of the stuff needs to get done to the episode
