I had to fit a certain mold to not embarrass/shame my family. I left 8 years ago and had only in the last 2 years been discovering who I really am and what I like. it's repressive and suffocating just for our men to "not be ashamed" by us. I'm never going back and I'll definitely never end up with an Arab man, and its a shame because I prefer to speak arabic at home

Our entire upbringing was based on shame, I am just now realizing it. The things we believed were normal and now starting to show how scary they are and how bad they’ve affected us in our lives. Just think of the comparison between you and your male siblings it’s truly insane.

IMO the self inflicted culture is very shame and control based. mean to the women and in turn the women are mean to each other and especially other cultures. when u step out of it u can realize that the world is a beautiful accepting place that does not need to be built on sexual shame but on self control, disciple and love of God without the fear based tactics u guys grow up with. life is so much bigger than what yall do to eachother. i was heavily bullied in that community and once i moved away and removed myself from it, my eyes were opened to peace and tranquility.
