It feels so dismissive! I gave birth last month and literally put in my birth plan that I didn't want to be called mama(etc) by anyone but my son. I had to be SO assertive and remind people "I have a name, please address me by it."

I'm from a place (Miami) where there is lots of calling femme people "mamma" in a not literally mother way. That feels sooo different than this kind of "mama" you are talking about. First one totally cool, second one seems so icky- and I've never even associated the two until this comment section.

It feels so demeaning. Everytime a doctor or a teacher refers to me as mom I feel gross. I’m not your mom. I have a name and am more than my kid’s parent.
