Horse community can be very opinionated but nobody is wrong about the helmet situation. Welcome to the fam. We want you to stay (and stay safe) ❤️

First day back riding after 15 years and fell off knocking my head pretty hard. I was givin an OPTION to wear a helmet - so glad I did or it would’ve been much worse.

You look great for five lessons but I’m agreeing with everyone with find a new barn if they never told you about the safety for a helmet even my trainer who rides daily and competes wears helmets everytime she gets on. Horses at the end of the day are still just animals making them unpredictable no matter what your skill level is!

Your hands are so steady so early 💙 a fun note about helmets…there are so many pretty and fancy ones. Lots of color options and when you add a big visor for the sun it feels like wearing an old timey hat 👒

you look great. but i would look through your barn options. there was quite a few red flags in this video that i (as a very experienced equestrian), would make me keep looking for a place to ride. this barn doesnt seem like your best option.

Tack is atrocious, invest in some good paddock boots w/ half chaps or proper tall boots and a new barn

no hate to you because you're just doing what you're being told, but please consider a new barn! especially if shes fine with that leg position at the trot on top if everything else

basic understanding :
if they are still trimming whiskers and do not require a helmet from their students, you are not at an ethical barn.
also, foal, not fawn :p

I know which barn you’re riding at in CC - within the Arabian industry we do clip our horses, which is clearly controversial and no one held back letting you know, LOL. Everyone is also opinionated about needing a helmet but that’s a personal decision. Yes, it is safer. But truthfully, it’s usually asked of kids to wear them, and I’m not surprised they didn’t have you wear one being an adult. Again, it’s a personal adult decision. Every industry is going to be different in a variety of aspects, so don’t get too concerned about the keyboard warriors here. I do know you’re in good hands with learning and lessons. Clearly a sweet saint of a lesson horse too! Hope you’re enjoying!

Awesome welcome to horse girl life! Now find a barn that values your life, one that requires riders to have helmets.

go to a new barn and trainer, several red flags here and it looks like you have natural potential that deserves to be fostered safely and responsibly!

Hiii ❤️if your trainer isn’t making sure you wear a helmet, I’m telling you rn this is not the place that you wanna be learning from. I mean this in literally the nicest way possible. Even the scissors being used is 🚩 you’re gonna end up pick up really really bad habits and it’ll set you back. I would suggest trying out different barns until you find the right one ❤️

I’m a trainer, what I tell my students- I had a friend die from a skateboard fall and no helmet. Now imagine what the height on a horse can do. Please protect yourself and find someone who values your life and time. Safety isn’t a joke.

Absolutely no hate to you, as a new rider its not your fault, but id get a new instructor IMMEDIATELY if shes allowing a beginner to ride without a helmet. She should know better

You need to find a new instructor if they immediately don’t require to wear a helmet

Ok, comparing this to a fitness instructor perspective, they are not teaching you effectively, appropriately, or efficiently. The way of teaching from this facility is the “quick fad diet” method of horse back riding. Sure you’ll learn to stay on a horse, but you truly won’t learn how to ride or learn about the horse as a sentient being. Just like a fad diet will make someone loose weight, it won’t give them tools to keep it off or learn about their body. 😉

I would not trust someone who allowed you to ride without a helmet and apparently didn’t even inform you that you need one. Not every trainer is a good or even humane one!!

I have mad respect for folks that learn to ride as adults. I've been riding all my life and the muscle memory just kicks in. I have, however, began golfing as an adult and have no "feel" or muscle memory. So, i totally get it. 😂

Whiskers are part of a sensory organ and trimming them is banned in a lot of places. You should also be wearing a helmet. Find a new spot.
