Cyclists need to accept that they will not win a battle with a vehicle while riding. Riding with your eyes and not belief of entitlement, would solve a lot of problems.

Absolutely.. Should also be licensed and plated as well as pay insurance to use the roads the same as any other vehicle.. I hit a women on a bike in my truck and was absolutely mortified and still have flashbacks.. She was taken to hospital in an ambulance where she was met by police and charged for running the stop sign..

what if a bunch of cars are stopped at a red light and a cyclist is trying to weasel their way into less than 1 meter of space between the parked vehicles/curb and the vehicles stopped for the red light? does the 1 meter rule only apply to cars going around cyclists?

A cyclist can “take the lane” whenever they deem necessary. Police cannot charge vehicles as bicycles are non licenced and do not fall under jurisdiction. Basically to charge a vehicle would have to acknowledge a bicycle on the road.

As an avid cyclist, absolutely agree it's a shared responsibility. I get so much hate when our community feels "they own the road" and I'll call that out. I still say, every cyclist should require CanBike training.

Happy Birthday!! Training cyclists in my area of BC tend to be a real problem during warmer months. Generally, they don’t show any care of the traveling public and are completely ignorant of the energy it takes a commercial vehicle to get around them. They abuse their status as “Green”. Completely ignoring the fact that when they have gathered a line of traffic behind them. They are a cause of excessive fuel usage and everyone else’s lost time.

Cyclists should be required to have a plate and insurance and a license (which is earned through a course and test) in order to use the roads.

I say to make matters easier, Cyclists should also have bike insurance, just like how motorcycles have bike insurance. That way everyone is covered and the law will be more clear.

What leads to accidents is the misconception that a motorist or cyclist has the right of way. The law is very clear and states that we must yield to the right of way. No one has the right of way.

I don’t disagree that the cyclist may have failed to fulfill his duty under the law, but at the same time, I’m conflicted that this might lessen the burden on the driver significantly. Essentially, it comes down to the way responsiblity was split. 5% to the cyclist? Sure. 20%? No.
