Are we really at the point where people argue against the existence of the fucking Jeffersonian grid 😭😭

Range and Township system. You can’t lay a square grid on a round earth.

This is one of the best real world tangible proofs of globe earth ive seen. Thanks!

I'd just make them line up perfectly, skill issue

I got this information from a land surveyor, it only applies to a Jeffersonian grid. Feel free to research it

The Earth is definitely round, but that's not why these exist. These offset intersections are there because when constructing roads, they would get the angle of the road slightly wrong. This slight error ended up having a large impact on the roads offset. To fix this, whenever they came up on a perpendicular road, they would correct the roads position.

No. That’s literally not how that works at all. Curvature doesn’t require a correction in the roadway. This is just people doing weird things with their land

Doesn’t prove earth is a globe but at least a circle

This pmo im a flat earther and it literally works exactly the same on the flat earth model. It’s a dome with a circular land mass you get a circular graph. Plus y’all’s argument is move the road left or right to accommodate curvature? I can make the same grid on a ball with straight lines? This literally insane

the curvature of the earth has absolutely zero effect on how roads are laid out...

yes you can't do i perfect square grid but you can make the tops of the squares closer together and make the illusion of square and you wouldn't have to do the roads that way

You could have those on a non spherical earth too so not exclusive

How have I never learned this is why these exist? That’s fucking fascinating

dude, do you really think they had pristine engineers building these roads? No, they had a blue collar guy with a tractor. they same thing we use today to run pipelines. there is an allowable tolerance. the shape of the earth has nothing to do with it

correction lines, I have to explain them to people all the time as to why they exist.

I always figured thats just how roads ended up as places grew and towns popped up, and of course terrain and stuff too but this is still neat

last time i checked, two points always align on a sphere, but not a flat piece of paper 🤔

so... lots of these have to do with roads being run down between property lines, we've got loads where I live, and much more than 1 every 24 miles.

yeah thats how you would havebto build it on a round earth... doesn't mean you cant make it on a flat earth either obviously.. Just because this method was applied to confuse us doesn't mean you have to believe it smh
