My grandfather had that problem and he put up a spring post so when they hit it, it bounced down and then it came back up and smacked the side of their car. It was pretty funny actually people get really mad when their cars get messed up.

Good idea….before anyone decides to do the same might want to check with your State and or Municipalities rules on mailboxes having to be on Breakaway posts…..

My mother in law has a crankshaft from a ammonia compressor as a mailbox post (350lbs), a chevy tahoe lost control, sideswiped the post, flipped the Tahoe tires up. No damage to the post or mailbox.

back in the 90's had kids take base ball bat to farm mail box. my dad put in 8-in I-beam with 1/4 in plate steel square box with a mailbox inside. still stands to this day.

Did mine out of 4" 304 stainless, fabed and welded the stainless mail box to match. A lot of hate went in to this project. 😂

a relative made a mailbox out of plate steel and sunk it 6ft into earth, painted didn't look different within a few days there was automotive glass at mailbox, not a scratch
