@brutamerica: On Tuesday, May 20, the Senate unanimously passed the bipartisan ‘No Tax on Tips’ bill, creating a new federal income tax deduction for workers earning under $160,000. (That limit will rise with inflation.) Here are eight reactions to the new bill. #notaxontips #bipartisanbill #taxontips Photo credit: Pexels
Tips paid by credit card will still get taxed, and workers weren't getting taxed on cash tips bcuz they weren't reporting them. This bill essentially does nothing.

Lasts 3 years while the tax breaks for the rich are permanent. Smoke and mirrors to distract you while they pick your pocket. 😔

the one that said "massive tarriffs on everything" must not pay attention that the tarriffs have been drastically reduced. not to mention, stuff from China already costs as much as stuff made in the US before tarriffs. it's time for US made product to take charge

Every single tip I receive is from a credit card so this changes absolutely nothing for my taxes 🤦🏻♀️

How about they pass a law that regulates minimum wage fairly enough that servers don't have to have their wages supplemented by tips? Is that too communistic for the cheap billionaire overlords?

The "no tax on tips" thing is misleading intentionally because its only up 25% of your base pay. So yeah its "no tax on a couple dozen bucks a month"

most dont claim their cash tips anyways so when they magically have $25,000 in tips next year the IRS gonna have a field day

its a tax credit morons and you only get it if you report your cash tips which is all the law covers. still pay taxes on credit card tips!

Exactly, you have to claim the cash tips (no one does that anyway) to qualify for the deduction and most will end up being pushed out of the qualifying income for the deduction by doing so. Uncle Sam gets more and you get less yet again lol

Tips are their income, why do they get to have a tax free job and I don't?

Also, if tips r not taxed, less goes into their Medicare and Social Security. It will take them even longer to earn credit as well.

People not realizing that this is just a way to collect more revenue on taxes since most tips go unreported anyways. Pretty much a bill for people to self snitch on themselves to the IRS.

I work 50 hours a week and take home about 1000$ after taxes as blue collar. Before this my girl makes about 1200 in 16 hours. I promise this bill did not need to be passed. Serves do just fine.

Smoke and mirrors is all this is. They need this ‘win’ whilst they rob you of Medicare and other benefits and pay their rich friends with tax breaks. WHO declares cash tips? Aren’t 99% on card anyway?

Why not just pay a fair wage and eliminate the need for tips? And tips could be only for above and beyond type service. That’s how most countries do it.

anyone else feel like this is just a way to get tipped employees to report their tips so they get their "tax deducation" and then in 2.5 years this will be gone and suddenly they're auditing people left and right
