This is my theory if they make Nick turn out to be the good person at the end. It’s still a coward‘s way out because instead of standing up to his wife and to Gilead, he decided to end his own life. That’s only if they make a good arc for him. Him turning into Jezebel’s was something June will never forgive and come back to or something I would never forgive. I can’t see him as a good person after doing that.

Me :
I think Nick did a lot more things behind the scenes that will come out, along with him choosing June by choosing to get on that plane so he wouldn't have to go after her.

And remember when the Americans/Canadians wouldn’t work with Nick…they told June that couldn’t based on what he had done…June was told repeatedly that Nick was not a ‘good man’….even Lawerence questioned why she trusted him…

I don’t like the nick hate but I agree he would’ve never hurt June.

Nick deserved the ending he got. Lawerence was a martyr in the end but out of self preservation

First, Nick shouldn’t be with June - they were together b/c of trauma. However he most def was not as evil as Lawrence. Nick was a commander b/c Fred promoted him as revenge for helping June and Nicole escape b/c he’d be sent to the front lines. He is very flawed but up through S5 he was on a redemption arc and signed agreement w/ Tuello to provide intel on the patrols. Lawrence planned & built Gilead, gaslit and manipulated June by extending then w/drawing kindness, made her pick 5 women they captured from Chicago to save then executed the rest, sent Janine to Jezebels, didn’t get help for his wife, put Hannah in a f’n display box, reported her Mackenzie visit to the eyes. The only one that could’ve provided Wharton w/ the details of the attack the night before was Lawrence. He alerted Wharton - probably how they were picked up so fast. Filled him in w/ the rest of the details as they met the next morning in Lawrence’s study. Just after that meeting Wharton knew about the blades passed out at wedding, sedated cake, and that June planned it. Lawrence didn’t have time or opportunity to alert the commanders about the 💣. Pretty sure Tuello knew he gave them up which is why he was assigned the job. He deserved to die. I think Nick alerted Tuello that Lawrence gave them up hence the plan that only Lawrence could complete. Nick arranged for commanders to arrive early & cleared hangar of security. Nick chooses to get on plane to ensure plan complete & atone for the “betrayal” (even though June betrayed mayday by telling a Gilead commander the plans & don’t forget how she gave up the handmaids location in S4). June is stunned to see him b/c he wasn’t supposed to be there. He’s a surviving commander - why wouldn’t he if he really was “Gilead”? Nick broke the trauma bond. Lawrence was a narcissistic manipulative m’fer. Lawrence to June: “You’re only free as I decide you are.”
