Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story (2003)
Liz Murray (Thora Birch) grows up in the Bronx with loving but drug-addicted parents, Jean (Kelly Lynch) and Peter (Michael Riley), both HIV-positive. Facing poverty, hunger, and neglect, Liz becomes homeless at 15 after Jean’s AIDS-related death. Determined to change her life, she enrolls in Humanities Preparatory Academy, excels in school, and applies for a New York Times scholarship.
Spoiled Ending
Liz graduates high school in two years, wins the New York Times scholarship, and is accepted to Harvard University. She visits her dying father, forgiving him. The film ends with Liz starting at Harvard, symbolizing her triumph over adversity.
