@washingtonpost: Verizon ENDS DEI for FCC approval Now companies looking to close deals are also ditching diversity policies and, reportedly, responding to pressure to settle lawsuits with President Donald Trump. On Friday, Verizon won FCC approval to buy broadband internet provider Frontier for about $10 billion. The approval came the day after the company said in a letter to FCC Chairman Brendan Carr that it would end its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs “effective immediately,” as the Intercept first reported. The agency cited that shift as a factor in its approval, along with Verizon’s promises to expand rural fiber internet service and resolve a labor dispute. In a news release, the agency said the company’s action demonstrated its commitment to “equal opportunity and nondiscrimination.” Caption from an article by: Will Oremus and Andrea Jiménez

Is this a step forward for progress or a dangerous move away from inclusion in corporate America?

all of the companies swallowing up other companies and then finding out they are not supporting dei makes it almost impossible for us to boycott because then we're left with what?

The far right wants us fighting culture wars amongst ourselves, distract us so they can steal all the money right out of our pockets. I wish more voters understood this. 😟

The ultimate flex would be to end their DEI just for the merger and then bring it right back once the merger goes through. but I'm being way too optimistic.

Getting rid of DEI will hurt rural areas more than ppl realize DEI in telecommunications usually benefits rural areas and expands telecommunications corps in high density areas - so the hurt will not be where ppl would expect
