By the way the Messianic Complete Jewish Bible also translates the word Alma as young woman. But the narrative of Yeshua tells a wider story. That is why Alma is also translated as virgin in other versions. What kind of a sign would it be if a young woman gave birth to a son? Not much of a sign at all as all young women may give birth to a son. Just as a barren woman giving birth was a miraculous sign, so too would a virgin birth be a sign. A young woman giving birth is ordinary and not necessarily a sign at all. But a virgin birth is! In stories like the birth of Isaac to Sarah and Abraham, the birth of Jacob to Rebecca, and the birth of Yeshua to Mary, the barrenness of the mother highlights the miraculous nature of the birth and the divine promise being fulfilled

Exactly why Isaiah 7:14 is translated as a Virgin. (Young girl/Alma). The standard for a young Jewish woman was to be a virgin. Therefore Rashi appropriately translated Alma as young woman, which does not imply that she was not a virgin. To say that Rashi was a commentator and not a translator is insulting and ridiculous. He translated Alma correctly, but other translations bring forth more than the basic meaning,of the word. Rashi was not in error but only translated Alma as in the simple form. If it is ok to translate Alma as an adulteress, keeping it in context, then so too is it proper to translate alma as a virgin. Bottom line Isaiah 7:14 correctly states that a virgin will give birth to a son. Alma can mean virgin as well as a young woman if the story calls for it. This is very simple.

What is simple is that Rashi agrees with the narrative of Yeshua. The Alma was a young woman, but also a virgin. At times we cannot understand prophecy fully until it is fulfilled. A simple translation of Alma is young maiden/woman and not a virgin. But an Alma very likely was a virgin in the Jewish community, and the sign given turned out to be a young virgin Alma. Therefore Rashi correctly translated Alma as young woman which in most cases was a virgin, The sign given turned out to be exactly that. Seventy rabbis that did not believe in Yeshua, did translate the word Alma as “virgin” in the Septuagint. There is a different word for merely a young woman in the Greek, yet the rabbis translated it as virgin instead. Are there differences between the Masoretic text and the Septuagint? Yes there are as there are in any language. To be fair Today the Septuagint is not accepted in Judaism (mostly out convenience I would assert), but it was accepted in Judaism when it was originally written in the large Jewish community in Alexandria, Egypt. Which brought understanding of the Hebrew Scriptures to the Hellenistic Greek speaking Jews.
