@rabbi_shais_taub: Many don’t know the history of the 12-Step approach to recovery from addiction and how its spiritual approach has its roots in modern psychiatry, specifically the teachings of Dr. Carl Jung. #12steps #recovery #carljung #sobriety #jungian #addiction #12stepprogram
12 step has caused considerably more harm than good. Spontaneous recovery has a considerably higher rate of efficacy than 12 step.

You don’t need god to have a spiritual experience. There’s plenty of atheists and agnostics that practice the 12 steps of AA successfully.

Dr Jung was important the Oxford group had the original 6 steps. None of this would have been relevant had Dr Silkworth not publicly identified the physical allergy and the mental obsession.

Great overview of how it started. And AA is actually the most successful treatment to addiction.

Addiction is physical - not spiritual or psychological or yada yada yada. If Jung were alive today I think he'd agree.

Great story. It doesn’t really matter how it was found. Just the fact that it was founded. It’s the combination of spirituality and fellowship and realizing that alcohol is not the problem, it’s just a manifestation of deeper issues.

He left a little out it was Bills best friend Ebby who heard the solution and was staying sober and wanted to share it with Bill. I’m pretty sure Ebby didn’t stay sober

What people dont realize is this is the only disease that is treated with a solution from the 1930's with no betterment since. This is so barbaric, imagine treating cancer patients the same way for over 80 years.
NO One cares about people who suffer from addiction

You don’t know what you’re talking about. AA comes from the Oxford Group which was Christian. AA works because it’s rooted in Christian principles, and Christ is King. You’ll find that out soon Mr. rabbi

I stopped going to AA. it's pretty cultish and that started wearing on me. I'm pretty wary of group speak and group dynamics. But it certainly works for some people. and just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean you have to drink. The Satanic Temples Sober Faction emphasizes the role and the utility of the will, whereas AA/NA teaches that your will is the problem. it's not. the problem is usually emotional.

@Lucky Mickey: One of the great mysteries of the 12 steps. Did Buchman, who founded the Oxford Group with 6 steps, originate the steps or did Dr. Jung.

I need to point out that group therapy, which is what 12 step programs are, began long before Jung and western culture started adopting things from the traditional talking circles of indigenous ceremonies. Those ceremonies existed for thousands of years before European excursion.

This video is 100% correct. This is where originated from Dr Jung to Rowland Hazard to Ebby to Bill W. Bill W would later relate to Dr William James, psychologist, in his writings. The 2 doctors had the answer, but like he says in the video, didn’t put it into practice people had their prejudices.
