@rubin_allergy: Replying to @sequinsandsales there is a potential for itching to occur after stopping allergy medications that are taken long-term. It does not mean you cannot take the medication. #allergies #medication #sideeffect #tiktokdoc #LearnOnTikTok

Doctors generally think patients are crazy until a study comes alone, 20 years later.

I’ve been on this medicine for 17 years and I CAN NOT live without it! If I miss a dose I am miserable until I take it. I had to be off it for 72 hours for an allergy panel once and the level of itching was worse than that random time I had scabies if you can believe it!

I seriously just thought that I was itching because I was allergic to something that the Zyrtec was fighting! But I was never itchy before I started taking it! It was so bad the last time I ran out that a bruised my legs from scratching so much.

mine always starts with my hands itching. then the itchiness travels up my arms down my torso and legs and ending with my feet. It takes at least a couple hours to get calmed down but I'm left bleeding in several areas😳😭

When this happened to me coming off Allegra, my doctor's only solution "just go back on it." Like, forever? I guess so. I've been on it ever since then and I haven't even brought it up again. But now I want to talk to her about trying a more gradual taper.

My allergist prescribed me Zyrtec when I was 5 (I’m 23 now) , and I’ve been taking it every single day ever since. None of my other doctors questioned this, so I never did either. Whenever I’ve accidentally skipped a dose or two I got really itchy and that’s been my ONLY symptom, so I assumed that was my allergies. This is insane to now know I may not even have those allergies anymore, and that it was basically just Zyrtec withdrawals 😅

Hi Dr. Ruben. I love your content. And I would defer to you on almost everything. But when I have stuffy nose, due to allergies, I put on some nice music and hum. No medication, just humming. It clears me up in about five minutes. Unfortunately, I have to repeat the process several times a day and my family thinks I’m nuts. Thank you for listening.

I took Xyzal for dust mite allergy and also went through this and was extremely frustrating, also had to wean myself off slowly with Liquid Xyzal. I’ve since been on loratidine then fexofenadine and have not noticed the rebound itching. What antihistamines are least likely to cause this?

Thanks for confirming that I’m not crazy. It was pretty uncomfortable. There were other consistent side effects like vivid nightmare.. increased anxiety (which may have tied to the itching) and hives.

I did the children’s Xyzal hack to wean off. I didn’t know it was Xyzal at first. My itching was so bad on my head, I thought it was lice or some new skin condition
